Newaygo County Caseworker
​

Caseworker Position - Please review the following: 

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in a human behavioral science, or in another major where 25% of the course credits earned toward the degree are in human behavioral sciences
  • Possess mature judgment, ability to handle crisis situations, communicate with youth and their families in a non-threatening and professional manner, and a sincere:
  • Ability to perform assigned duties.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Criminal history background check, being of good moral character.
  • Most posses a valid MI drivers license and proof of insurance.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Two years of work experience in human services .
  • Knowledge of social work practices.
DUTIES & FUNCTIONS:
  • Provide direct outreach counseling and services to at-risk youth and their families.
  • Ability to case manage a maximum of 15 case files.
  • Provide family and individual counseling. Provide family mediation during crisis.
  • Enhance youth’s self-worth and improve their overall health.
  • Provide short-term placement for youth.
  • Ability to make appropriate recommendations and testify in court.
  • Ability to make appropriate referrals to other area agencies.
  • On-call 24 hours per day every three weeks.
  • Knowledge of community resources.
  • Coordinate recreational services for at-risk youth.
  • Ability to work independently and to manage time effectively.
  • Develop a professional working relationship with area agencies.
  • Participate in planned trainings related to social services and community meetings.
  • Assist youth with short and long-term goals and other issues such as:
Communication, Grief, Peer and family relationships, Employment, Delinquency, Drug/Alcohol, Anger management, Truancy, Teen pregnancy, Divorce, Academics, Incorrigibility, Human Trafficking, LGTBQIA
